21.05.2014 - Jollibean fire incident.

Today, the shop right beside my place got on fire. It was 5.30 am in the morning when my mom started noticing smoke coming out from the gaps of the wall. I was soundly asleep until I heard my mom shouting in panic for my dad. I got awake straight away thinking that maybe something's wrong with my dad (fell down the stairs or fainted or whatsoever). I opened my door to a place full of smoke, and right then I knew it's fire again, just like how it was 4 years ago.

We didn't know where was the fire source that time yet. My mom panicked and pour water into the wall gaps where the smoke came from. My dad was panicking too, rushing here and there to save stuffs and all in a sudden he slipped and fell down. Mom helped him got up while we were busy packing stuffs to escape. I called the fire station. All I can say about the call is "wth?!".. When you're working in a fire station, you expect people calling to report for fires. And of course you have to have fast reaction and catch the main points fast. Who will be so free to repeat whatever he/she reported a few times just because you couldn't catch them for the first time.

After we got out of the house, my dad complained that he couldn't move his left arm and he was in pain. I quickly send him to the hospital after grabbing his hospital card and wallet. Upon arrival, they asked me to register and they held his arm in position using the arm sling. We waited more than an hour to get the X-ray done while a painkiller injection was given to him while waiting to reduce his pain.

X-ray films showed broken humerus of the left arm. The radiologists suggested surgery at first. When we first got the news, we were shocked. We thought it was just a dislocation of the joint. They then sent him to the orthopedic department for further examinations. I went back home to get changed first while my mom accompanied my dad for the waiting. They cemented his arm and said that they'll observe the bone's healing process every week and then decide the further treatment plans. He is now at home resting while complaining pain from time to time. It hurts me to see that he's in pain and there's nothing I can do to help ease the pain..

After these two fire incidents, I'm worried about my parents continue living here. Especially when my bro and I are not at home. I really cannot imagine how they would've handled the situation. Both so panicky. The shop houses are all so old again. Electricity wiring has always been an issue for old buildings. I advised my dad to sell the shop house this morning. There is a reason why my mom kept nagging him to sell. I cannot bear to see my mom always worrying and cannot get good sleeps because of this. We definitely need a safer place to live in.
